Help your dog, cat or rabbit stay calm during stressful situations

Pets feel stress and anxiety just like we do. While some triggers are obvious - like a vet visit - others, such as house guests, rearranged furniture, or changes to your routine, can also make them uneasy. Stress often shows up in their behaviour - like barking, hiding or urinary marking.

Introducing Beaphar Calming Pheromone Range

Beaphar’s pheromone range helps calm and reassure cats, dogs and rabbits of all ages and breeds, and rabbits. These proven pheromones promote feelings of security, making them ideal for pets experiencing minor stress, adjusting to a new home, or going through training or learning periods.

The Beaphar range is the more affordable option for the pet owner, while still being effective!

How Do Pheromones Work?

Pheromones are natural chemical signals that trigger instinctive responses between animals of the same species. Cats respond to cat pheromones, dogs to dog pheromones - they don’t affect each other. So, if both your cat and dog are prone to minor anxiety, you’ll need species-specific products to support each pet.

Across the range, three proven pheromones are used to promote feelings of safety and reassurance.

Dog Appeasing Pheromone (DAP), Cat Appeasing Pheromone (CAP) and Feline Facial Pheromone (FFP): These pheromones all promote an instinctive calming response, helping your pet to feel relaxed and at ease. By using a synthetic copy of these pheromones in our products, we can mimic this calming effect, helping reassure pets during stressful situations and thus reducing problem behaviour.

Appeasing Pheromones: Appeasing pheromones are naturally produced by the mother when she nurses her young. These pheromones promote feelings of safety and reassurance, and are a crucial part of the bonding process. In dogs, this pheromone is called the Dog Appeasing Pheromone (DAP). It is effective in calming dogs in a multitude of stressful situations. In cats, this pheromone is called the Cat Appeasing Pheromone (CAP). As cats are naturally solitary animals, the CAP can be particularly valuable in multi-cat households, helping to promote harmonious living. Cats and dogs of all breeds and ages can identify their own species' appeasing pheromone, even if they were hand-reared.

Feline Facial Pheromones: As the name suggests, Feline Facial Pheromones (FFP) are specific to cats, and are used to mark areas as 'safe' and 'familiar'. Many cat owners will have seen their cat rubbing their chin or cheeks on household objects or people. When cats do this, they are releasing the FFP and marking the object/area as a ‘safe space’ to be in, or identifying you as a person they’re comfortable and happy being around.

Signs of stress and how to support your pet

Signs of stress and stressful situations

Pheromones are effective across a wide range of minor stress-related behaviours. Research shows it’s especially effective in certain situations where it can make a real difference:

  • Spending time alone (separation anxiety)

  • Trips to catteries/kennels

  • Visits to the vet

  • Moving house/ new environments

  • New baby, visitors or pet

  • Travelling

  • Multi-pet households

When Pheromones don’t work: Severe clinical anxiety, pain-based behaviours, learned behaviours. Please seek professional advice if you think your pet has any of these.

Which product do I need?

  • Diffuser (best for home use):
Great if your cat or dog gets anxious at home - like when left alone, moving home or when visitors come over. It works in one area, so it’s ideal for home-based stress.

  • Collar (best for everywhere):
If your dog is anxious on walks, in the car, or at the park, a collar is a better choice. It goes wherever your dog goes.

  • Spot-on (lasts up to 3 weeks):
A simple option you apply directly to your cat or dog. Provides ongoing support without needing to remember daily use.

  • Spray (best for short events like travel):
Perfect for quick situations like travel, vet visits or car trips. Spray bedding or the car about 15 minutes before. Not ideal for long-term minor anxiety as it wears off quickly.

Tip:
Many owners use a diffuser at home, then add a collar or spray when needed. It’s safe to use them together.

The Complete Range

Beaphar CatComfort® & Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser

Our home should be the space where we feel relaxed and comfortable, and that’s the same for our cats and dogs. Sometimes changes to the home environment, such as new furniture, moving house, or the introduction of a new baby or pet, can be distressing for our cats and dogs.

Our calming diffusers offer an easy and effective way to counteract this. Simply plug the diffuser in the room where your cat or dog spends most of their time, or in the room where the problem behaviour is occurring. If you’re using the diffuser for a particular stressful situation, we recommend plugging the diffuser in around one week beforehand.

For continuous reassurance, keep a new Beaphar CatComfort® or Beaphar CaniComfort® 30 Day Refill in the cupboard. Each refill is effective for up to 30 days, making the diffuser an easy way to provide a long-term solution to easing your pet’s general feelings of minor anxiety, and reducing problem behaviour.

  • Comfort from pheromones

  • Effective in an area up to 70m2

  • Easy to use plug-in

A calming diffuser is not an essential oil, air freshener, or sedative. It won’t make your pet sleepy, contains no drugs, and has no smell to humans.
